Central Vancouver Bayfront Community

Nanoose Bay Real Estate

As its name suggests, Nanoose Bay is positioned on the bayfront, about 26 kilometers north of the city of Nanaimo. This scenic area was once home to the Nanoose First Nation, from which the community gets its name. Now, it is a small, tight-knit community that comprises both permanent residents and summer vacationers (about 6,500 in total). Nanoose Bay is perhaps most well-known for its stunning regional and provincial parks, which feature wooded and beachfront trails. Contact the Carey Real Estate Group today to start your home search, or click here to read more about Nanoose Bay real estate.

The Nanoose Bay Market

The Nanoose Bay real estate market offers a lot more than one might expect from such a small community. From low-rise waterfront condos to luxury homes with scenic views, this area has been developed (and is currently seeing more development) to suit a diverse selection of buyers.

When it comes to condos and apartments in this area (whether for full-time residency or as a vacation home), the complexes at Dolphin Beach are some of the most desirable in this part of Vancouver Island. Looking over the Schooner Cove Marina, The Westerly and the Schnooner House offer a quiet lifestyle with a ton of amenities, including a great location close to the golf course, marina, and parks.

Single-family homes in Nanoose Bay are the primary property type, and are great options for both families and retirees. Nanoose Bay is also home to the Fairwinds Golf Course, which has its own, private neighbourhood.

Nanoose Bay At A Glance

As a coastal community, one of the most desirable characteristics of Nanoose Bay is its oceanfront location. With homes that look over onto the Strait of Georgia and a marina in the north end, this community is particularly appealing to boating enthusiasts. Of course, swimming, fishing, hiking, and other outdoor activities are quite popular, as well. Especially as a large part of Nanoose Bay is undeveloped and protected land.

The center of Nanoose Bay, or its town center, is located along Northwest Bay Road, which connects to the highway. This is where the Nanoose Place Community Centre is found, which hosts community events, games, performances, and even wedding receptions. There is a large sports field out back (Jack Bagley Field) and pickleball courts, part of the Nanoose Pickleball Club.

The community offers all of the essentials, including a grocery store, gas station, post office, a library, volunteer fire department, outdoor market, and more. Nanoose Bay has one elementary school.

Top Nanoose Bay Highlights & Amenities

Though Nanoose Bay proper typically refers to the community center, down by the bayfront, the community extends north to Dolphin Bay. This is where the Fairwinds Golf Club is located, as well as the Fairwinds Schooner Marina and Nanoose Bay Cafe. The neighbourhood of Fairwinds is quite luxurious and private, with a small selection of custom-built homes. The golf course itself is public and features 18 holes, a driving range, a wellness club, and a restaurant, the Greenview Taphouse.

There is one major park in Nanoose Bay: Moorecroft Regional Park. Located on the northern edge of Nanoose Bay, this large park has a parking lot and hiking trails. Additionally, there is a scuba diving site just east of the park. Just outside of Nanoose Bay is Englishman River Falls Provincial Park. One of the biggest green spaces in this part of the island, these forested trails lead around a large river and waterfall.

Other hiking trails in the vicinity include:

  • Enos Lake Trail
  • Schooner Ridge Community Trail
  • Shooting Star Falls Trail
